My Year 2016 Highlights

Reflecting back on this year I can't say anything other than wow. The past 12 months have been filled with a lot of laughter but also with tears. This will be a really long post and I wish I could make it even longer because so much has happened and I have so many photos I'd like to share, but I hope these photos speak for themselves. Let me tell you though! Narrowing down thousands of photos to ~10 is no easy task.
Wow what a rise of emotions it was going through all of my photos from the past 12 months. I broke down this year but that's what it took to truly find myself, peace and happiness. I wouldn't take anything back nor do anything differently. I've caught myself complaining a few times that I want my life to be more calm and consistent but to tell you the truth, routine bores me and I strive off crazyness.
You never know what's behind the corner so cherish every moment, forgive, love and appreciate your life and the people in it for nothing is set in stone nor permanent in this life. Things can change completely in a blink of an eye. I am so grateful for so many things, especially for my amazing friends.
This year I got really into living a healthy lifestyle and my body and mind has never felt better. Doing exercise is one of the few things in life that with absolute certainty you won't regret lol.
Oh my goodness! Say hi to Pamela! She's my friend's baby girl. We lived next to each other during the spring so I was her second mommy. Let me tell you though, this little ball of cuteness and love transformed to a monster during the day time. At my place she liked to play all kinds of games, such as running around sticking her tongue in all of my electricity sockets.
I visited some stunning places. Rome is such a beauty of true class. The history and architecture of the city is breathtaking.
I have never seen anything as beautiful and powerful as the Vatican. The energy I felt in there is quite something - my whole body was covered in goosebumps throughout the whole time.
IMG_1011 IMG_6702
Staying by the Bosphorus in Istanbul will make your soul rest. So damn beautiful. The Four Season's terrace is a must! The country's situation is really heartbreaking though... Luckily, I dodged the numerous attacks that happened around the same time I was there.
A beautiful dinner and night at the Ciragan Palace. I'll remember this night forever.
What better way to end the summer than by having some rosé @ Eden Roc in Antibes! This place is stunning.
And ofcourse last but not least I refound my love for makeup and blogging!
This year I've found some great products that have become staples in my collection and some really amazing products were launched. I'll be doing a 2016 beauty favorites posts.
The Huda Beauty palette was launched! This palette is just something else - worth the wait and it truly exceeded my expectations (a post is on its way!).
Thank you to you my readers for sticking with me and my shenanigans throughout the past year. I hope you all had an amazing Christmas with your loved ones and I wish you all health, wealth and happiness for the next year.

A kiss from Helsinki! xx

Glamorous Midnight Blue Smokey Eye

Blue is my favorite color and I think it's one of the most flattering colors to use on the eyes in a bold party makeup look. I've heard so many people say that blue is a difficult color to work with so let me prove you wrong here! It's actually really the only colorful eyeshadow I use that's out of the neutral-earth toned sphere and I love it! This is usually the look I go for if I'm going out clubbing.

MAC Pigments: Warm Snow, Silver Fog, Naval Blue, Blues

I used all of the pigments above for this look. I bought them from MAC's holiday collection last year but I'm sure they have very similar ones if not even the same product but under different names. Pigments are a tad more difficult and messier to work with so if you're not feeling that I'd suggest using eyeshadows. However, they do deliver a more intense and amplified finish, especially when used wet!

The last time I was at Inglot I laid my eyes on their beautiful blue and grey eyeshadows - I have to go back there asap and do some damage...
Dark makeup like this requires glamorous and dramatic false eyelashes! Ardell falsies are my favorite. Btw, I really hope there's no one out there paying more than a few euros for (Ardell) lashes. I've actually seen stores retailing them for almost 10€ in Finland and I rolled my eyes so hard that I almost saw my brain. I order all of mine from Madame Madeleine at $2.60 each and currently they're having a -20% discount on Ardell lashes by using the code SHOPNSAVE at checkout & -18% sitewide by using the code CELEBRATE. You're welcome, ladies! ;)

Here's my in-depth post on false eyelashes.

If you're a beginner in the lash world or you generally have difficulties with falsies, I'd recommend getting something with a clear and thin band rather than a thick band like the above. Thick bands can be more difficult to work with - even for me! However, these are so glamorous that it's worth it! One of my favorites and what I usually wear are the #105's because they're super easy to put on and work well with both day and evening looks.
MAC Angel

A baby pink lip paired with a blue smokey eye, MM-MM! My favorite combo! Pinks are blue based so that's why they look so good together. A neutral beigey glossy nude would also look good with this makeup.

Let me know what you think of this look! Does anyone else love a dark blue? Especially royal or electric blue as much as I do?!

Hope you're all having a lovely week,

My New Favorite INEXPENSIVE Everyday Foundation - Lumene Nude Perfection Fluid Foundation

Finally! A great (inexpensive) everyday foundation that's comparable to high end ones. It's perfect for everyday wear as its natural looking and of a lightweight consistency.
Lumene Nude Perfection Fluid Foundation
This is great for the dry winter climate as it's quite hydrating. However, it is not too hydrating to the point that someone with oily and/or combination skin wouldn't be able to wear it. I have oily skin myself and once I set it with powder it's perfect. It also still looks good at the end of the day. The consistency is of a watery one and the skin almost drinks it up. This results in it blending in very nicely and being barely visible on the skin. However, it does perfect the skin and do what we want a foundation to do! Pretty great right? Lumene anyway is one of my (if not my) favorite drugstore brand.

Fabulous Rainy Days

I wanted to share these rainboots that I have been loving (...didn't think I'd ever be saying that lol) with you guys before the temperature drops to the negative integers. So it's that time of the year again where pretty much all shoes worn outside will get ruined. I have never been a fan of rainboots until now! These ones by Prada are just so perfectly glamorous. They're super shiny and glossy - adds that perfect extra oomph to a dull and rainy day.
These babies can be ordered from Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus. The only downfall with rainboots naturally is that you can't wear them for long as they will get uncomfortable since they don't breathe.
Recently I've been so into glossy blacks and dark blues. Usually I'm all about the whites, nudes and pinks but now I just can't get enough of black. What do you think of these nails? I love this color. I actually just did a makeup look using dark blues aswell and it turned out great - one of my favorite looks for sure! I'll be posting it soon. Next I'm posting a video on my TOP 10 makeup products so stay tuned for that ;)

Let's hope for some beautiful white snow!

Have a lovely weekend beauties xx

Professional Makeup Brushes - Amazing Sigma Beauty Discounts 22.11-13.12

A good makeup application simply cannot be done without good makeup brushes. You can use products that are of bad quality and have your makeup turn out great due to the tools you're using but it doesn't work the other way around! The majority of my brushes are from Sigma Beauty and for a reason. Sure - some have been sent to me but most of them I've bought with my own money. These brushes are meant for professional use and are of excellent quality but yet retail at decent prices. I own a lot of MAC brushes which I've paid very high prices for and these brushes are of the exact same quality but half the price. For example, my favorite blending brush for eyeshadow retails for $32 at MAC, whereas at Sigma Beauty it's $17. Holler.

SO I just got notified on some amazing deals and sales Sigma is having for the next two weeks and I thought I'd tip you guys off. For ex., -25% on all products and free international shipping or -30% on all products and a free brush cup sound like pretty darn good deals to me (all the deals are listed in detail below)! Sigma has these discounts once a year for a few days so make sure you don't miss them. Now is really the time to get a nice makeup brush set if you've been thinking about it!
Here's my in-depth post I did on makeup brushes a couple years ago and below are all the great deals. Enjoy, beauties!

My Winter Skin Care Secrets (Affordable Products)

The winter climate really messes with my skin and I doubt I'm alone on that. However, I've found some great products that have worked wonders for me - it's surely taken a lot of trial and error though. I have combination skin so a mixture of oily and at times dry but I would recommend these products for all skin types: normal, oily, dry, combination or sensitive. These products alongside a healthy diet and plentiful water consumption have made my skin be in its best condition. Please keep in mind that healthy skin is a reflection of the body's health - there is no product that will transform it from unhealthy to healthy.

IMG_3801 2

Let me start off by saying that the majority of these products aren't as expensive as the usual high end skin care so hurray for that! I'm anyway strongly of the opinion that if you're going to save on something don't let it be on your skin care. Girl! You only get one skin and it's your FACE we're talking about here. In my opinion, there is a big difference in drugstore skin care product quality versus high end ones. Ofcourse, a lot of the time with high end brands the fabulous product packaging plays a huge factor in pricing so let's not forget that.

Nuxe Rêve de Miel Nourishing Night Cream ~30€

A true GEM! I cannot praise this product enough. Thank me later. This night cream is my all time favorite and it's made of 91% natural ingredients containing a fair share of honey. Nourishing is indeed the key word here - it just feels like it's reviving, repairing and nourishing my skin. No skin care product makes my skin feel this good. My skin drinks it over night and I'm left with soft, radiant and healthy looking and feeling skin. The price is really great for such an amazing product. I've used products that are x4-5 the price and can't even compete with this. Also, a little tip for my finnish readers: this is usually sold at Hullut Päivät for a discounted price - that's where I usually purchase mine ;)

Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream ~65€

So this product clearly doesn't belong in the category of affordable skin care but I had to mention it. I'd highly recommend it for people with dry skin around the eye area. It's an intensely hydrating eye cream which is of a very thick and hard consistency (to be used over night). It's important to only use a small amount because it can swell and puff up the eyes otherwise alongside clogging the skin resulting in impurities. I'm aware the price is quite salty for 15ml of product and therefore I'd recommend asking a high end department store for a sample (this applies for all expensive fluid products btw). I actually purchase mine from airports usually since we're looking at a -20% discount.

LUSH Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub 17€

This facial scrub will leave your skin clean, even and silky soft. However though! Don't make the mistake of constantly scrubbing your skin because it's dry and peeling - this will just work against you and make the skin even more dry and irritated. Scrub it gently with minimal product max. once a week and moisturize well afterwards. This and the above mentioned products are truly the dream team.

Bepanthen Ointment 7€

Bepanthen is a classic! I'm sure most people have used this during their lifetime. But did you know it's great (in my opinion the best) for dry and chapped lips and also works wonders on dry patches/areas on the skin. I use it over night and my lips are soft and any dry patches be gone! An inexpensive pharmaceutical product containing good ingredients that're favored by dermatologists sounds like a good deal to me.

I hope these tips were of help! Let me know what are your favorite winter skin care products!

My Fitness Routine Video - Diet & Workout with my Trainer

My fitness journey has been a long and challenging one - from being a smoker and gaining almost 10kg during my freshmen year to finally being able to say that I'm happy with my body (...KNOCK ON WOOD!).

Remember to switch to HD when watching!

Persistence, patience and consistency have been the key factors in reaching my goals (I haven't reached them yet though but I'm starting to get really close). Always keep in mind that results will not show in a short period of time and the routine has to be continuous - otherwise it's a waste since the results that you've worked hard for will disappear. When I'm feeling demotivated I revive my motivation by looking at inspirational/motivational pictures + nice workout gear always works too for us girls I feel ;)

Anastasia Beverly Hills - Master Palette by Mario Review

Allow me to introduce you to my favorite eyeshadow palette: The Master Palette by Mario. I have waited for so long for Mario Dedivanovic to launch or collaborate with a company on a product like this and so I spent a good day on Anastasia's websites hitting the refresh button in order to get my hands on it the first moment it became available. If you don't know who he is - he is a celebrity makeup artist and he is the Kardashian's makeup artist - you may not like the Kardashians but look me in the eye and tell me you don't admire their flawless makeup, HA! He's a real trendsetter in the beauty world - Countouring? Nudes? Golds? Bronzes? Anyone? I have followed him for years and I get a lot of my ideas, style, techniques and inspiration from him and his work.
As for the palette, it's like his work compressed into the form of a palette - these are the kinds of shades he uses on his clients (Hello Kim!). The shades are also very trendy and versatile - it contains the currently much in favor rose golds and warm red based shades alongside your much required bronzey champagnes. It's perfect for natural or super glam looks. The only downfall for me is the absence of a very light highlight shade and a dark brown/black matte shade but the palette is so great that it doesn't bother me.IMG_3787 copy
Neutrals heaven indeed! The quality of these shadows are impeccable. They are all true to their color, highly pigmented, long lasting, easy to blend and really adhere onto the lid once placed on it. My biggest irritant with matte shades in general is how they either don't distribute evenly or/and disappear off the lid once you start blending them. Fortunately, these matte shades don't possess any of those qualities - they're very buttery and pigmented. Generally speaking of backfire with shimmery shades, for me, it's them being very dry and the powder particles not being dense, resulting in a lot of fallout and the shadow not adhering properly onto the lid. The shimmery shades on this palette are almost moist and creamy resulting in a flawless distribution of shimmer.IMG_3400
I have to conclude by saying that this is my favorite eyeshadow palette by far! The next palette I'm getting my hands on is the Huda Beauty - Rose Gold Edition and I'll review it the moment I get it. Let's see if that will take the leading place.
For this look I used the shades ISABEL, VIOLETA, KIM, MUSE, MARINA and 5TH AVE

P.S. HOW white am I? I could blend in with the snow. I have to say though what I enjoy about being this white is how all makeup products show nicely and true to color on the face lol - it's satisfying.

Peace out xx
XOXO, Ella

8 Tips for Healthy Skin

This post is for those of you who can relate to me and are not blessed with perfect skin, which reacts easily to internal or external factors. Infact, my skin reacts to the slightest change in my environment, habits or diet, so it can be a little difficult to manage at times. Here are a few tips for keeping your skin looking good! This post is not focused on product recommendations, simply because everything starts from within - there is no miracle product that will transform unhealthy skin into healthy skin over night. I teamed up with Dollar Shave Club to help those that might still be stuck in the harsh cold weather.

1. Water - Drink a lot of water. Internal hydration is most important. Proper hydration makes everything in the body function better, including the skin. Lack of water may dry your skin out even more than it may already be and dehydrated skin becomes more prone to break outs and wrinkles.
1. Vesi - Juo paljon vettä. Sisäinen nesteytys on tärkeintä.

2. Moisturise - Keep your skin moisturised at all times. External hydration adds a protective layer to your skin. However, it's important to know your skin type - normal, oily, combination or dry so you're not for ex., clogging your pores with a thick cream.
2. Kosteutusvoide - Pidä iho aina kosteutettuna. Ulkoisesti käytettävä voide lisää iholle suojaavan kerroksen. On kuitenkin tärkeää tietää oma ihotyyppi - normaali, rasvoittuvainen, sekaiho, vai kuiva, jotta ei vahingossa esim. tuki ihohuokosia liian paksuilla voiteilla.
3. Diet - The skin is a reflection of your body's health - remember that! What you put in your body has a huge impact on your complexion. A nutritious diet that keeps your insides healthy, will surely keep your outward appearance looking equally as good. Also, certain products of food, such as dairy, may affect your skin in a negative way and promote breakouts.
3. Ruokavalio - Muista, että ihosta heijastuu elimistön hyvinvointi! Terveellinen ravinto vaikuttaa koko ulkoiseen olemukseen. Tietyt ruoka-aineet, kuten maitotuotteet, voivat myös vaikuttaa ihon kuntoon heikentävästi.
(It's hard to resist goodies like this... I know! but try your best!)

4. Let your skin breathe - This is no rocket science. Be without makeup and let your skin breathe as much as possible. No matter how much we love to use makeup, having a bunch of chemicals sit on our skin for a large portion of the day during most days isn't the healthiest option.

5. DO NOT sleep With Make Up On - For the love of god, do not do this. During sleep, skin regenerates and repairs itself, absorbing any products on your face more efficiently. No matter how tired you are after that night out, atleast grab a makeup wipe before dozing off.
5. ÄLÄ nuku meikit kasvoilla - Älä hyvä ihminen milloinkaan tee sitä! Unen aikana iho uusiutuu ja palautuu päivän rasituksista. Vaikka olisit kuinka väsynyt tullessasi juhlista - niin puhdista kasvot ainakin puhdistusliinalla!

6. Avoid Smoking - Smoking causes premature ageing and the loss of a natural glow resulting in a dull complexion. In the longterm blood isnt flowing properly, so you're more prone to broken capillaries and veins, which can cause dark scarring on the face. I am guilty of occasionally smoking myself but I try to keep it to the minimum!

7. A Good Immune System - Work towards keeping your immune system strong because a weak immune system makes your skin prone towards bacteria that causes irritation and breakouts. I excercise regurlarly, keep warm and eat healthily to keep mine strong.

8. SPF - Use a moisturiser that contains SPF and always protect yourself from the sun. Exposure to the sun causes premature ageing, skin pigmentation and a lot more serious consequences such as the risk of skin cancer.
8. Aurinkosuoja - Käytä aina kosteusvoidetta, jossa on aurinkosuoja.

A nice makeup application always begins from a nice base. Just think of it this way - a painter would surely have a difficult time mastering his painting on an uneven canvas.
Kauniin meikin pohjana on aina hyvinvoiva iho - taiteilijallakin olisi varmasti hankalaa saada täydellinen maalaus, jos kanvas olisi epätasainen.XOXO, Ella
